Iowa State University Central Campus

This is the view in the opposite direction, away from Catt Hall, toward central campus. You'll notice that a large area of central campus has been preserved as green space. On warm days, it's a popular place to lay out and read or study, or just throw a frisbee around.

Central campus was designed in 1906 by Olmsted Brothers, the same firm that designed Central Park in New York.

Perhaps the best-known landmark of central campus (and the university) is the Campanile. It was built shortly before the turn of the century. The bells in this majestic tower chime every quarter-hour. On most days, a carillonneur will perform a noon bell concert for the enjoyment of those fortunate enough to be outside.
